Choosing your newborn photographer is a bit like choosing your wedding photographer. You spend ages looking on the internet looking for that baby photographer that fits just right – the philosophy, the style of work, the budget – you want all the pieces to fit neatly. It’s important to get it right. I want you to get it right.
Next to your wedding, the birth of your baby is an extremely important milestone. It is important to choose a newborn photographer that can seamlessly blend into your family to document this precious chapter of your life.
When you book me as your newborn baby photographer, you are investing in the present for the future. The moments captured during your newborn photo shoot become memories that are cherished for generations to come. I put a lot of love, care and attention to make your newborn photography session as memorable as possible. As your photographer, I have the special privilege of being invited into your lives to tell and document your story. I value this rare privilege.
Booking me as your newborn photographer
Once you have chosen me as your photographer and signed the portrait agreement and contract, I block your chosen date and time for just you alone and do not take on clients for the same day and time. I will then go through the fine details of your session with you so you know what to expect and how to prepare for your newborn photo shoot.
Planning your session
Your newborn baby photography session can take anywhere from two to three hours. I am patient and I never rush newborn sessions. I give as much time as needed to capture precious images of your baby for you to fall in love with over and over and over again. I always allow time for feeding, changing nappies and cuddling in between shots. Your newborn session is tailored to your baby’s needs so that your baby can be relaxed, happy and content throughout the session. Please don’t schedule anything on the day of your session so that we have as much time as we need to capture beautiful and timeless images of your baby.
The location
Your newborn baby photography session will be done in the comfort of your own home before your baby is 10 days old. I adopt a lifestyle approach to newborn photography and I like to shoot at home where you and your baby will feel most comfortable in those early days. Please don’t worry about state of your home. I understand how chaotic things can be with a newborn. I only need a room or two to shoot in and this will usually be the room with the best natural light. This could be your living room, bedroom or your baby’s nursery.
The style
Newborn sessions will usually focus on individual images of the new baby alone as well as photographs of the new baby with the proud parents and siblings. I prefer not to use props like baskets but instead focus on simple images that pay attention to the special things about baby – the curl of baby’s hair, tiny fingers and toes. I also place emphasis on the early days bond and connection between the baby and his/her mum and dad.
After your session
After your session, I will handpick and edit the best images from our session for you to review. You will have a wide selection of images to choose from. These will be available for you to view on a private, password-protected gallery. Once ready, you will receive an email or phone call so that you can view your online gallery and choose your images. If you have chosen a package to include all the images from your newborn baby photography session, these will be provided to you following professional retouching.
